Nike Inc has come up with new rules for retailers to help better manage unruly crowds outside stores around its shoe launches, the Wall Street Journal reported. According to a company memo, Nike told sporting-goods stores that they will not be allowed to pre-sell or take reservations for new shoes.

The retailers, according to the report, will also have to give up
midnight releases of shoes that had prompted customers to camp outside
and stampede stores.

“Retailers should assess what measures are necessary to secure the store and ensure the safety of personnel and consumers,” the Nike memo said, according to the Journal.

The changes come as Nike is expected this fall to debut its first basketball shoe over $300. The $315 LeBron X Nike Plus is expected to come embedded with motion sensors that can measure how high players jump.
