Nike Golf has announced the addition of the #1 ranked amateur in the world, Chris Williams, to its talented athlete roster. In a multi-year agreement with Nike Golf, Williams will represent the Swoosh in clubs, ball, footwear, glove, apparel, headwear and accessories.

Williams will make his debut as a Nike Golf athlete at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut. Featured in his bag is the world’s first high speed cavity back driver, the Nike VR_S Covert Tour set to 9.5 Neutral. His Nike Golf arsenal also includes the Nike VR Pro Combo irons and Nike’s 20XI golf ball featuring innovative RZN core technology. He will be sporting Nike Golf apparel from the Tour Performance Collection and the Lunar Control footwear.

“Joining the Nike family is a dream come true. They have the most talented athletes and I am excited to be a part of this elite group,” said Williams. “I am especially impressed with my new equipment and with the engineers at The Oven. Their passion and knowledge is amazing. I am excited about taking my game to new heights at the professional level with Nike Golf.”

Williams had a love for baseball before he transitioned his focus to golf, a characteristic still seen in his golf game with a 10-finger grip. The Idaho native attended the University of Washington, winning a notable two tournaments as a freshman. He was the first University of Washington golfer to win the Ben Hogan award and holds the Washington win record with six victories. In 2012, Williams earned the Mark H. McCormack Award, given to the world’s top-ranked amateur. This impressive world ranking earned him a spot in the 2013 US Open.

“We are thrilled to add Chris to our Nike Golf staff,” said Mark Thaxton, Global Director of Sports Marketing Operations at Nike Golf. “With his incredible success at the collegiate level, we are confident he will prosper as a professional golfer. We are looking forward to what Chris’ future has in store.”
