New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. signed Jenny Barringer, who competed for the United States in the 3,000-meter steeplechase race at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, to a multi-year endorsement deal.

The 23-year-old track star qualified for the first women's steeplechase final in Olympic history by finishing third. She set a new American record of 9:22.26 in the final and placed ninth. The recent University of Colorado graduate and four-time NCAA champion has since lowered that mark to 9:12.50.

“Jenny's accomplishments as an athlete make her a great brand ambassador for New Balance,” Tom Carleo, general manager of running at New Balance, said in a statement. “But it is her sincere passion and energy to give back to the community through organizations like Girls on the Run that inspires the entire company and make her such a natural member of the New Balance family.”
