New Balance has bid for the naming rights for Gloucester High School's Newell Stadium in Gloucester, MA, according to the Gloucester Times.

Mayor Carolyn Kirk's office put the field's name out to bid in August. The shoe company is the first and, so far, the only corporation considering the $500,000 naming rights bid the city has posted as a minimum, the report stated. The city's request for proposals seeking title sponsorship rights to the worn-down stadium states the city's looking for a firm or large scale donor to pay for the rights to put their name on the stadium's field or other parts of the stadium.

The report noted that New Balance's owner, Jim Davis, also heads Beachfront Gloucester LLC, which purchased the former Birdseye processing plant from Gloucester Developer Mac Bell's Pavilion Mercato LLC for $6.5 million over the summer.
