The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA) has elected three leaders to its Board of Directors: Shirley Gonzalos of Pedal the Peaks, Chelsea Kulp of Shore Brake Cyclery and Paul Tobio of Ryder Bikes. Each brings a “wealth of experience and a passion for strengthening specialty bike retailers and the cycling industry.”
Since its founding in 1946, the NBDA has worked to empower and strengthen specialty bicycle retailers through education, research, communication, and advocacy. It believes that when bike retailers thrive, the entire industry and cycling community benefit.
Gonzalos is the co-owner of Pedal the Peaks in Durango, CO. With a background that spans owning and managing a family pawn shop and various business ventures, Gonzalos brings a strong foundation in business management and strategic decision-making to the NBDA Board. Her passion for cycling extends beyond her business, as she works with local policymakers in Durango to promote cycling safety. Her advocacy efforts make her a valuable addition to the NBDA’s efforts to advance cycling policies and infrastructure.
Kulp, co-owner of Shore Brake Cyclery, brings over ten years of experience in customer communications, media relations and community outreach. As an advocate for inclusive cycling in her local community, Kulp will leverage her strategic communication skills to support the NBDA’s mission.
Tobio has been at the forefront of the cycling industry for over two decades, with the last 17 years as the owner of Ryder Bikes in Bradenton, FL. His experience in the cycling industry and corporate sectors, including 17 years at Staples, has equipped him with extensive knowledge in operations, supply chain management and strategic planning. Tobio’s dedication to improving the cycling retail business is evident through his active participation in the NBDA P2 program. Tobio also presented at the 2024 NBDA Retailer Summit, offering strategies on sales and margin growth for sustainable business success.
