A California woman sued Nalge Nunc International Corp, claiming the company downplayed risks that the bisphenol A (BPA) in its Nalgene polycarbonate bottles, according to reports by Reuters and court records.

The suit, filed Tuesday, follows the Canadian health ministry's announcement Friday that it was considering banning the importation of baby bottles made from PBA despite finding that BPA exposure to newborns and infants using such bottles is below levels that may pose a risk.

Nalge Nunc, which is a unit of scientific supplies maker Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., said Friday it will phase out production of its Outdoor line of polycarbonate containers that include BPA over the next several months.

The lawsuit does not describe any physical ailment suffered by the plaintiffs and seeks unspecified damages, according to Rueters.
