Moosejaw will launch ReTrail, a resale program, on February 9. The online platform lets customers buy and sell their previously owned gear directly on the retailer’s site.
“For over 30 years, we’ve worked hard to bring the magic of the outdoors and the gear needed to as many people as possible, “said Eoin Comerford, CEO, Moosejaw.” Through the ReTrail program, we are making it easier for our current customers to sell their gear and more approachable for new consumers to obtain gear. This program answers the rising consumer demand to incorporate eco-conscious habits into their daily lives.”
Users select items from their Moosejaw order history through the company’s peer-to-peer platform to list them for sale. Sellers upload their product photos and descriptions and recommend a price for the item—authenticated and approved by Moosejaw—to sell on the ReTrail platform. When the item sells, customers receive a prepaid shipping label to ship the item, eliminating a third-party warehouse.
Moosejaw does not take a commission on the sale. Once the buyer verifies the item’s condition, the seller is paid 100 percent of their list price in Moosejaw Reward Dollars, useable to purchase new gear on Moosejaw.com and in Moosejaw stores, rentals or pre-owned gear on ReTrail. Moosejaw High Altitude Members with K2 or Everest status earn an extra 10 percent in Moosejaw Rewards for their sales. Buyers earn 2.5 percent cash back in Moosejaw Rewards on their used gear purchases.
“We want our customers to recoup the full value of participating in the circular economy,” explained Mr. Comerford. “Of course, we benefit down the road by attracting new customers and when sellers return to spend their Moosejaw Reward Dollars.”
The ReTrail resale program is in addition to Moosejaw’s gear rental program which ships products within the U.S., expanding the rental option to consumers not close to a gear rental store. Outbound and return shipping is free for most rentals. Each rental earns customers 10 percent back in Moosejaw Reward Dollars, which can be applied immediately to pay rental fees or buy gear and apparel.
