Moncler teamed up with eight designers
to reinterpret the brand’s iconic down jacket.
On February 20, the opening night of Milan Fashion Week, Moncler invited guests to a huge hanger were eight collections from eight designers were dedicated to reinterpreting Moncler’s signature down jacket.
Described by the brand as a “hub of exceptional minds operating in unison while simultaneously cultivating their singularity,” Moncler tasked eight designers with reinterpreting the down coat while retaining functionality and performance as warm outerwear through the brand’s Genius Project.
Each collaboration came with a corresponding number and a mission statement.
Moncler 1 coats were reinterpreted with elongated silhouettes by Pierpaolo Piccioli, Creative Director, Valentino.
Moncler 2 pays homage to 1952, when the the Moncler brand was born, using bold colors and enlarged logos.
Moncler 3 uses Grenoble, the city where Moncler was born, as its inspiration. The coats are designed as technical wear for mountain climbing and trekking. with mix-and-match printed fabrics.
Monclear 4 by Simone Rocha is based on photographs of Victorian climbers wearing petticoats to create voluminous silhouettes.
Monclear 5 is an abstraction of the body by menswear designer Craig Green in monochrome fabrics.
Monclear 6 transforms the brand’s jacket into a series of modular elements using black fabric by Kei Ninomiya.
Moncler 7 showcases streetwear and L.A. label Palm Angels in Hiroshi Fujiwara’s collection.
At the entrance of the space two museum bookshops are reimagined and display the lineup that was developed by Francesco Ragazzi, creative director of Palm Angels, in Moncler’s 8th showcase.
By creating these eight collections, Moncler hopes to better-appeal to the “uniqueness of the consumer.”
