Michael Kors, the American sportswear fashion designer and Chief Creative Officer for Michael Kors Holdings Limited, entered the Activity Tracking category with the debut of a new line of watches that brings fitness tracking capabilities to luxury smartwatches.
The new category is being called Access, and both its Smartwatch and Activity Tracker include fitness recording capabilities (step counting).
The Activity Tracker specifically is a band that also includes goals and sleep tracking, boosted further by remote control activation and no charging necessary. It currently comes in four colorways, each marketed at $95. Unlike the Smartwatch, the Tracker does not feature interchangeable bands.
Sure, it doesn’t surprise us when fashion takes a step into fitness, but we wonder how many exercisers will wear a luxury watch during their workout regimen. Anyone who has worn a Fitbit knows how weeks of sweat can dirty the device. Will consumers be willing to smell-up their luxury accessories? Or sacrifice sweat for style?
SGB will keep its eye on the trend, as Garmin recently came out with a luxury fitness tracker watch as well.
