Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) has temporarily paused its company’s rental program as a precautionary measure as confirmed cases of coronavirus continue to increase in Canada.
The program rents snowshoes, skis and sleeping bags.
“The health of our staff and members is a top priority and we are taking precautionary steps,” MEC spokesperson Kathleen McDonald said in an e-mailed statement to CTVNews.ca. “We’re doing what we can to be extra safe and will continue to keep the best interests of our staff and members in mind.”
MEC is also suspending use of its climbing and bouldering walls. Other measures to protect against the virus include “enhanced cleaning, limiting business travel, and promoting everyday preventative behaviors with our teams across the country.”
MEC operates 22 stores across Canada.
