Vancouver-Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), Canada's largest outdoor clothing and equipment retailer, will open its tenth and newest store in North Vancouver late this fall. The 11,800 square-foot North Vancouver store will open upon completion of an extensive retrofit of an existing building to improve its energy efficiency and accommodate MEC's unique retail offering.

“The North Shore is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts,” said Linda Bartlett, chair of MEC's board of directors. “The North Vancouver store will serve the thousands of MEC members who live on the North Shore by bringing our products and services to the doorstep of where they work and play.”

Located at 1341 Main Street just west of the Trans Canada Highway, the new store will serve MEC's 55,000 North Shore members as well as those who live in North Burnaby, Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton. The location of the store will be convenient for other members who require last-minute items before they leave the city to pursue activities and adventures in the Sea-to-Sky backcountry.

“Thirty-three years after the co-op began with a small storefront in Vancouver, we've come full circle,” said CEO Peter Robinson. “With stores in most major cities across Canada, the North Vancouver store represents the first time we've added a second MEC location in one of our major markets.”

The North Vancouver store will complement MEC's flagship Vancouver store, located on West Broadway. It will feature a product assortment that is specifically tailored to members who reside on the North Shore and pursue activities such as cycling, snowsports and climbing.
