McDonald’s entered the activewear market on July 30 when the fast food chain released a hooded vest and track pant in collaboration with Australian fitness and swim brand We Are Handsome.
The pant and vest, labeled under the brand Macca’s Legendswear, were released on eBay July 30 and will be available for sale to Australian consumers until August 30, or until the limited line is sold out. The design features a tropical print with Egg McMuffins and pancakes hidden in the design.
We Are Handsome was founded by husband/wife pair Jeremy and Katinka Somers and focuses on the reimagining of “the norms of swim and activewear design to construct pieces that capture the spirit and emotion of a life filled with movement,” according to the duo.
The collection is a nod to the 2016 Rio Olympics, which Mcdonald’s is a big-name sponsor of, alongside Nike and Coca Cola.
All proceeds from Macca’s Legendswear go to Ronald McDonald House charities.
The push into activewear for the behemoth fast food franchise may travel to the U.S. However, news of any American sportswear collaborations have not been mentioned. But amid the battle between apparel/footwear sponsorship endorsements at the Olympics, this may be a way for brands to side-step the legal battle with Nike and get its label on the chests of competitors.
