In April, adidas announced plans to bring their cycling apparel into the U.S. market. adidas is planning to use the existing Mavic infrastructure to help distribute their goods. Mavic has an extensive network with the independent bike dealer, and adidas is using this to their advantage.
By 2004 the two companies will be consolidated into one unit, Mavic-adidas Cycling. Mavic will continue with their hardgoods production, but they will also be the exclusive distributors for adidas soft goods, incuding footwear, apparel and accessories for mountain and road biking, which will hit retailers in spring 2005. These soft goods are currently produced and designed by adidas.
By 2005, M-aC will be handling all product creation, sales, distribution and sell-in of adidas brand soft goods as well as the Mavic hardgoods. The group will be collaborating with Salomon on much of the product design out of their shared headquarters in Annecy, FR
