Marin Bikes will co-sponsor, with Minneapolis based Alternative Bike and Board, fourteen Tibetans and two Canadians in the “Peace Ride for Tibet's Independence”. The ride begins on April 10th with a large demonstration at
10am in front of The People's Republic of China (PRC) embassy in Washington, D.C. The ride ends on April 24th with another major demonstration outside the PRC Consulate in Toronto. His Holiness The Dalai Lama also arrives in
Toronto on April 24th. Fourteen Tibetans and two Canadians plan to complete this 600+ mile, strenuous, long journey through Maryland and the mountains of Pennsylvania and New York.
“Marin Bikes is excited to support such a great cause,” said Robert Buckley
president and founder of Marin Bikes. “The ride is about change and
educating people about the situation in Tibet.”
Jigme Norbu, the son of 82 year old Taktser Rinpoche (Oldest Brother of His
Holiness The Dalai Lama) will lead this bike ride. His brother, Kunga
Norbu, will be present on April 10th to support Jigme and the other riders.
Their mother, Kunyang Norbu, will remain in Bloomington, Indiana taking care
of Rinpoche and tirelessly working to ensure the ride¹s success.
According to Jigme, “I am riding to continue my father¹s lifelong effort to
regain Tibet's independence and to stand up for the silent, but determined
Tibetans in Tibet who are committed to once again rule their own country.”
Rinpo Tenzin, from Minnesota, will co-lead this ride. This bike ride is an
extension of earlier bike rides (e.g., Minnesota to D.C.) completed by
Tibetans and it is also an extension of numerous marches for Tibet's
independence led by Taktser Rinpoche and coordinated by ITIM.
