Lids is expanding internationally by opening its first independent stores in Mexico over the next several months.
The first four locations will be in the metropolitan area, State of Mexico and Queretaro—Parque Toreo, Galerías Toluca, Premium Outlet Punta Norte, and Premium Outlet Querétaro. The Premium Outlet Punta Norte store will feature Lids custom areas, allowing consumers to embroider a cap.
“For over 20 years, we’ve received feedback from Mexico longing for the world’s largest hat and jersey selections to be closer to home. We’re thrilled to finally make that a reality this month as we open four locations in Mexico, bringing the best selection of sports and fashion headwear to the country,” said Lawrence Berger, co-founder and partner at Ames Watson and chairman of FanzzLids Holdings, owner of Lids.
The announcement follows the brand’s growth to become a billion-dollar business since Ames Watson acquired it in 2019. Lids operates nearly 2,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada, including its ongoing partnerships with Macy’s and Designer Brands. Lids also operates the NBA flagships in NYC and London, the NHL flagship in NYC and clubhouse stores for the Yankees, Dodgers and Paris St. Germain.
