La Sportiva N.A. is introducing eco-sensitive hiking boot technology for spring 2010 at this summer's Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City. The FC ECO Series will build upon the footwear manufacturer’s signature Flex Control technology while meeting the needs of the eco-conscious consumer.

“The line was inspired by our company’s mission to create the best technical footwear for the mountains while trying to reduce our impact on the environment in as many ways as possible,” La Sportiva N.A. President Jonathan Lantz told The B.O.S.S. Report. “This eco-friendly technology will begin to permeate our other categories in outdoor footwear in the future… We have already begun to use more environmentally conscious practices and materials in several other products.”

The line features Vibram Eco-step compound insoles composed of 30% recycled rubber content. The new Zero-Waste EVA midsole uses a combination of compression molded and injection molded pieces, which have a net effect of zero waste. The upper uses 100% recycled nylon for the mesh, laces and webbing. The lining uses a Dry-Best Bristol component with a 40% recycled nylon content.

Lantz said the company plans to market the new line by rolling it into La Sportiva’s Giving Greenbacks program with select dealers, as well as using typical methods of POP and social media to “inform the consumer about the product and the emphasis on the ECO built technology.”
