L.L. Bean announced plans to renovate its flagship store and the retail campus in Freeport, ME, as part of a more than $50 million project.

“Once complete, the renewed store and campus, the second most visited tourist destination in Maine, will become even more beloved, hosting immersive experiences for the customer, expanding community engagement opportunities and reaffirming the company’s commitment to its hometown of Freeport,” L.L. Bean said.

Objectives of the project include:

  • Building on the retailer’s customer service, including upgrading the customer “journey,” new offerings and improved employee experience;
  • Create an “inviting and identifiable entrance” on Main Street better suited for pedestrians;
  • Improving access to its campus, outdoor event offerings and retail store;
  • Expanding its Discovery Park and enhancing the infrastructure to support community engagement and connect with Main Street.

Standard store operating hours will remain the same during the renovation.
