L.L. Bean CEO Stephen Smith told CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street” that sales of bikes, kayaks and canoes have been robust in the spring and summer as outdoor activities have increased in appeal in the stay-at-home economy.
“People are connected to the outdoors in ways they have never been,” Smith said Tuesday. “What we have seen is a total reconnection to nature, just being outside,” Smith said.
He added, “There are incredible restorative benefits to being outside…We absolutely see that continuing through the fall and winter.”
More recently, sales of flannel, fleece and boots have strengthened as temperatures have cooled. Smith said, “We have already seen a pop in sales on snowshoes, sleds, some of our outdoor hard goods for the winter season. I think people are connected to the outdoors in ways they have never been.”
