Just like other weather-weary snowbirds, L.L.Bean is headed to Florida this spring.
While it will be too late to take advantage of the increased population during the winter and early spring months, the retail store will be the first in the state for the Maine-based outdoor retailer. The 17,000-square-foot store will be in the University Town Center in Sarasota, FL, near UTC’s Target, Best Buy and Old Navy. The new Bean store was previously a Bed Bath & Beyond.
“Our founder, Leon Leonwood Bean, believed that we’re at our best when we are outside, so we’re excited to open our first store in the Sunshine State. This new location will give both Floridians and visitors a selection of style and function for all that Florida has to offer,” said L.L. Bean Chief Retail Officer Greg Elder in a media release. “Whether people are enjoying Florida’s beaches, hiking its scenic trails, exploring its legendary parks, or retreating to the A/C, we’re here to provide the clothing and footwear to make every moment enjoyable.”
The company suggested that its Bootmobile, the retailer’s signature boot-shaped vehicle, will make stops around the Sarasota area from March 29 to April 5.
The University Town Center location is L.L. Bean’s first in Florida and the Southeast U.S., with stores predominantly located in New England, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic states.
The company plans to hire 30 workers to staff the Sarasota store.
