Kellwood acquired Zobha, a California maker of yoga and fitness apparel and accessories that distributes through yoga studios, fitness clubs and its own e-commerce site.

The deal marks Kellwoods third acquisition of the year and its first in the fast-growing market for yoga-inspired activewear, where Lululemon Athletica continues to set the pace. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Based in Mill Valley, CA, Zobha was launched in February 2008 by Jamie Hanna and takes its name from the Sanskrit word which means “grace, beauty and brilliance.” Zobha also offers a complete collection of loungewear including tees, tunics, pullovers, and hoodies. Zobha outfits both men and women and sells yoga mats, headbands and mat carriers and other accessories. The company also offers a line of maternity yoga apparel for expecting mothers.

Zobha is available in 350 retail stores in 27 countries, online at zobha.com and at leading yoga studios and fitness clubs.

Under President and CEO Michael Kramer, Kellwood, which is parent to American Rec (Sierra Designs, Royal Robbins, Isis, Slumberjack, Kelty), has been gobbling up apparel brands. The company, which is owned by Sun Capital Partners, recently recruited two VF Corp execs to head up international sales and retail operations.
