Delta Apparel, Inc. saw net sales for its fiscal third quarter rise 19% to $69.4 million from $58.3 million last year. Sales in the company’s activewear division, which includes Delta, increased 1.9% to $36.6 million for the quarter. The retail-ready segment, which includes Soffe and Junkfood, saw sales increase 46.4% to $32.8 million driven by both an increase in sales in the Soffe business of 13.1% and the Junkfood acquisition. On a conference call with analysts, Robert Humphreys, CEO, said that Junkfood sales had increased approximately “6% to 7%” over the year-ago period. He said that last year, PacSun had accounted for 10% – 12% of sales for the Junkfood brand and that this year they were down to “very little.”

Operating income for the retail-ready segment in the quarter increased 97.4% to $3.9 million due primarily to the acquire Junkfood business. On the activewear side, operating income decreased 48% to $1.3 million. Net income was $2.7 million, or 32 cents per basic share, in the fiscal third quarter of 2006 compared to the prior year's level of $5.4 million, or 65 cents per basic share.
