Team sports dealer Johnny Mac’s Sporting Goods recently announced the promotion of Adam Burns, general manager of retail sales, to the new position of chief operating officer, effective immediately. As COO, Burns will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of retail and warehouse divisions, as well as the enforcement of revised corporate policies for its staff members in all divisions.

“With the implementation of new policies and continued growth experienced within our company, the executive team feels the creation of this position will help maintain consistency and ensure smooth daily
operations in all areas,” said Bob McArthur, president and CEO of Johnny Mac. “Johnny Mac’s prefers to promote from within, and we feel that Adam has the experience required to be successful in accomplishing our goals.”

Burns’ career in sporting goods spans nearly 18 years. In 1993, he obtained his start as a 16-year-old associate turned assistant manager at Omni Sporting Goods in St. Louis. When the company went out of business in 1999, Burns went on to serve as the manager of the Johnny Mac’s location in Ballwin, Mo. before moving to northern California in 2003 to join Sports Authority. As a store director, he spent the next four years moving to retail locations of increasing volume before landing in Reno, Nev. Burns returned to St. Louis in 2007, where he re-joined Johnny Mac’s as the general manager of retail sales.

As COO, Burns will report directly to McArthur and the ownership team with sole authority governing retail and warehouse operations. He also maintains overriding authority over school, team and office division managers on matters of policy and operations enforcement as it relates to a revised handbook, which will be released in the spring of 2012.  Division managers maintain authority on all other issues.

A family-owned and operated institution since 1967, Johnny Mac's Sporting Goods supplies protective equipment, team uniforms, trophies and support services.  There are now eight stores across Missouri, Illinois and Michigan.
