The International Trade Commission (ITC) opened the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) process for tariff relief on qualified sports and fitness products on Friday, October 14, and will start accepting petitions from U.S. businesses requesting a suspension or reduction in tariffs on certain U.S. imports.

The launch begins the new process for duty relief consideration via the MTB and is managed by the ITC. The final deadline to file a petition is December 12, 2016.

Interested Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) member companies that qualify for tariff relief must file petitions with the ITC, which will vet all requests for relief, recommend approval or dismissal of petitions and send a report on their findings to Congress.

Petitions that are filed and reviewed will be published and available to the public to view and submit comments.

On September 28, 2016, SFIA announced that it has begun working with its members on petitions for ITC consideration.

SFIA identified a series of products for potential MTB tariff relief. Some were previously vetted and others are new. Information on proposed tariff relief for repeat products can be found below and includes items such as basketballs (leather, rubber, other), tennis racquets (strung, unstrung), volleyballs, golf bags, drivers, irons, wedges, yoga mats, batting gloves and more.
