The ispo BrandNew Awards were presented for the 13th time at ispo winter 06. A total of 171 young entrepreneurs from 25 countries have submitted entries this time. The following criteria had to be fulfilled:
Brand or company is not older than four years
Never previously an exhibitor at ispo
Present innovative products
The jury, composed of representatives from the sports industry and the sports trade media, had to select an overall winner, seven category winners and 32 finalists from the entries from the submissions. The eight lucky winners each receive a completely furnished booth of 20 sq. m., and the 32 other finalists a 10 sq. m. booth.
Advansa Overall Winner: North Legion SMX from Norway:
SMX is the ideal alternative for all bikers in the winter. Regardless of whether mountain-biker, BMX or FMX fan, all two-wheel tricks are also possible on the slopes. The SMX looks like a tricycle, but with three stable short skis instead of wheels and a very stable, high-tech look. Turns and tricks are not problem thanks to the flexible frame, and you can stop faster than with a snowboard according to the manufacturer. The designers made certain that you can use every kind of ski lift with it without problems for getting up mountains conveniently. If you are thrown off the saddle during risky maneuvers, you need not say goodbye forever to your SMX, because the device stops close to the crash spot.
Thermolite® Hardware Winter Award: Icelantic Boards from the USA:
Icelantic makes skis for free-riders, free-skiers and new schoolers. The new brand does not bet so much on length, but instead is convinced that surface area and an ideal ratio of the complete dimensions are decisive. For example, a 143 cm Icelantic ski has the same surface area and the same properties as a 185 cm ski, but weighs considerably less and is easier to maneuver. The design of the ski is a mixture of art with a Scandinavian touch and extraordinary graffiti.
Creora Style Award: Tyra Clothing from Hungary:
This streetwear label from Hungary provides multifunctional clothing for women and men. The pieces are real eye-catchers both during sports as well as before and after. The collection convinces thanks to its design, which has been implemented down to the tiniest details. Tyra Clothing provides sport freaks and couch potatoes with clothing, in which they feel comfortable and feel like you are wearing something great. Tyra Clothing has succeeded in combining style and function masterly while staying its own course.
Freudenberg Sportswear Award: Stridelite from the USA
Few people are able to practice their favorite sport outside in winter before the sun goes down. But it is very important to remain visible in the dark. StrideLite provides multifunctional jackets and belts, into which electronic “illuminated strips” are worked. The small battery cases are integrated cleverly into pockets, so that they do not interfere with sports. The jackets are available in various color combinations for every taste, and they fit perfectly.
Riri Sportswear Accessories Award: CZiP from the USA
People involved in winter sports know the dilemma; you have to take off your gloves for certain things, but they is not always easy or safe, especially on a lift, in the middle of a ski slope or backcountry. CZiP Glove puts an end to this problem. Thanks to a zipper on the back of the hand, you can simply fold open the glove fingers and consequently open a ski boot, take a handkerchief out of your jacket or take a snapshot. The glove remains secure on your hand; you cant lose it and you can put your hand back into the warm glove just as quickly. The material of CZiP Glove dries quickly, and you can chose between mittens and gloves.
ispo Accessories Award: Tubeline from Germany
The idea of taking old materials and giving them life with a new design has been around for quite a while, but nobody had thought of bicycle tires till now. Tubeline makes stylish bags made of old bicycle tubes. The products range from ladies handbags to carrier bags and all the way to laptop bags and will certainly be expanded. For all those who want to have a small souvenir from their favorite cycling pro, Tubeline provides a special service: on request, bags are made from tires, which the pros used during their races. For example, you can have an individual bag made from the tires, with which “Ete” Zabel won the six-day race in Munich.
Coolmax® Hardware Summer Award: Banshee Riverboards from the USA
A few might already be familiar with the scenario, because surfing addicts already made rivers and creeks unsafe with similar systems contrived ad hoc years ago. Banshee Riverboards now offers a complete riverboard set composed of board and a specially developed, safe bungee rope system for the first time. Using it, surfers, who dont live near the sea or where there are waves in a river, can practice their favorite sport near their homes. You can surf upstream or staying the same spot against the current at a speed of 45 km/h and you can do it without a boat. DuPont Hardware Accessories Award: Mantis from Germany:
Whoever believes that he has everything that golf has to offer will now learn a new lesson. The Carbon Golf Caddy is now available for all golf addicts and design freaks. The caddy convinced the BrandNew jury not only thanks to its innovative design, with which it has already won the Red Dot Design Award this year, but it also fulfills all desires with respect to functions. High-tech carbon ensures almost imperceptible weight, and handling, setup and folding together are childs play. In spite of the slight weight, the Carbon Golf Caddy also has an electric motor with forward and reverse gears.
