Taylor Swift is not the only influential woman impacting economies through live sporting events. According to a recent report issued by ticketing technology company Logitix, Caitlin Clark is having an unprecedented impact on secondary market ticket prices wherever she plays.
Tickets to Iowa women’s basketball road games are selling for as much as 20x on the secondary market compared to her opponent’s home games that don’t feature Clark.
In their analysis, Logitix tracked ticket sales for Iowa’s away games starting from December, comparing those figures to the average prices of all other home games for the host team. The eye-popping figures represent the average sale price per ticket, exclusive of any fees.
Iowa Women’s Basketball Road Games:
- 12/6/23 @ Iowa State – $99.61 (vs. $18.09 for all other Iowa State home games)
- 12/10/23 @ Wisconsin – $92.02 (vs. $12.56 for all other Wisconsin home games)
- 1/5/24 @ Rutgers – $97.77 (vs. $38.44 for all other Rutgers home games)
- 1/10/24 @ Purdue – $132.50 (vs. $30.76 for all other Purdue home games, excluding GA)
- 1/21/24 @ Ohio State – $136.05 (vs. $34.22 for all other Ohio State home games)
- 1/31/24 @ Northwestern – $224.30 (vs. $11.27 for all other Northwestern home games)
- 2/3/24 @ Maryland – $152.83 (vs. $12.67 for all other Maryland home games)
- 2/11/24 @ Nebraska – $104.77 (vs. $104.77 for all other Nebraska home games)
Perhaps the Taylor Swift media buzz will slow down and focus on the athletes getting it done.
The 6’0″ senior is averaging 32.1 points per game this season and is eight points shy of breaking Kelsey Plum’s scoring record of 3,527 points for most career points in Division I history. Plum set her record over 139 games and Clark is just seven points shy of tying the record after only 125 games.
Clark is set to break the record at the Hawkeyes next game at home on February 15 against the visiting Michigan Wolverines. Ticket prices are expected to soar leading up to the game.
