As the cycling season begins to heat up, Interbike is pleased to announce its advocacy and association support
program for 2004, an annual effort that provides necessary funding for a broad collection of advocacy and industry organizations at the local and national level.
Based on merit and overall impact, Interbike had chosen to provide financial
support to the following advocacy organizations and industry associations:
- Bikes Belong Coalition
- League of American Bicyclists
- International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA)
- Junior Development USA Cycling
- Thunderhead Alliance
- Sprockids
- Trips For Kids
- Bicycle Products and Suppliers Association (BPSA)
- National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA)
Vital at every level of each organization, the annual funding allows many of
these groups to achieve specific annual goals.
“The Interbike funding will allow us to establish a retailer scholarship
fund for the National Bike Summit,” said Andy Clarke, Executive Director at
the League of American Bicyclists. “By helping to increase retailer
attendance at the summit, the bicycle industry can become a larger part of
the picture in Washington. These funds are a significant investment for the
future of cycling,” Clarke added.
“Interbike recognizes the importance of the dealer, and has been the NBDA's
largest single supporter for many years,” said Fred Clements, NBDA Executive
Director. “Interbike has a direct role in numerous projects that benefit
retailers, such as the Super Seminars, consumer and trade research, the Cost
of Doing Business study and various other programs we undertake to help our
industry.”
“Interbike has played a significant role in the growth of Bikes Belong and
we're very appreciative,” said Gary Sjoquist, Director of Membership
Development. “Lance and his crew understand the value of our industry
working together so we can all sell more bicycles and accessories.”
“Interbike has been one of IMBA's biggest supporters for more than a dozen
years,” said Pete Webber, IMBA's Membership & Communications Director.
“These monies directly fund an extensive resource center on the IMBA
website. This online support has dramatically improved the expertise of our
volunteer network. The result for mountain bikers everywhere is great new
trails.”
Beyond financial support, Interbike provides various in-kind support to the
advocacy groups and industry associations through complimentary exhibit
space, advertising opportunities, meeting space, and guest passes to the
Interbike Expo.
“From our standpoint, we strongly believe supporting these organizations is
a necessity,” said Lance Camisasca, Interbike Show Director. “The funds help
to ensure the overall health and growth of the business and sport of
cycling.”
Additionally in 2004, Interbike also sponsors the Bicycle Business
Leadership Conference, the National Bike Summit, and the Bicycle Friendly
Communities programs.
