Imports of Camping apparel and gear rose $414 million, or 4.8 percent, to $9.05 billion in 2012 on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
By comparison, imports of Toys, games and sporting goods rose just 1.5 percent to $33.5 billion and overall imports rose 3.0 percent to $2.27 trillion.
U.S. exports of Sports apparel and gear reached $709 million, up $15 million or 2.2 percent from 2011. Exports of Toys, games and sporting goods reached $10.4 billion, down 0.8 percent from a year earlier. That compares to total exports of $1.55 trillion, up 4.5 percent from 2011.
