The Hockey Equipment Certification Council, which was established through USA Hockey and a coalition of industry manufacturers with the aim of creating standards for rules of play and safety requirements for U.S. amateur hockey, filed a lawsuit against Warwick Mask and Equipment, Inc. for trademark infringement. In the suit, HECC claims that Warwick intentionally used a label similar to that affixed to HECC-certified equipment on its own products that had not undergone the process.

HECC is seeking a cease and desist order against Warwick for the company to stop using the logos as well as a recall of all products it feels are infringing. In addition, the council is seeking compensation for court costs, legal fees, and damages.
