Head N.V. is leading the ski hardgoods manufacturers into a more
environmentally-sound business model. This first step by Head is a
minor one, but it is one of the first eco-conscious initiatives by a
snowsports hardgoods manufacturer. The company formed an alliance with
the global environmental charity, Cool Earth. Cool Earth's
mission is to fight climate change head-on by protecting endangered
rainforests, which play a vital role in the global climate by absorbing
carbon. The partnership will result in a new worldwide
environmental program for Head. Head said it is committed to saving
over 7,000 acres of mature rainforest from destruction through its
partnership. Through the partnership with Cool Earth, which began last
month, HED is matching ten times its annual carbon emissions with
avoided deforestation credits.
The company is also launching a “Don't pray for snow. Do something.”
advertising campaign in September that will feature some of their
well-known athletes including Olympic Medallist and World Champion ski
racer Bode Miller. In addition, the company will be actively marketing
for the Cool Earth program. All products HEAD manufactures and sells
worldwide under the HEAD, Penn, Tyrolia and Mares brands will soon
feature information about Cool Earth and global warming.
