The Alpargatas S.A. Board of Directors hired Liel Miranda as CEO, succeeding interim CEO Luiz Fernando Edmond, on February 1, 2024.
Miranda is currently the CEO of Mondelēz International’s Brazil business unit, a role he assumed in 2019.
Brazil-based Alpargatas is a textile and footwear manufacturer and home to the flip-flop sandal brand Havaianas and nearly 50 percent owner of the North American sustainable footwear brand Rothy’s.
As CEO, Miranda will reportedly “continue the transformation process initiated this year, focused on simplification and efficiency, leadership of the company in executing its new strategies, and combining the resumption of sustainable growth with operational excellence.”
Miranda will reportedly “continue performing his duties as a member of the company’s Board of Directors and will work with the new CEO to ensure a successful transition in the role.”
Miranda has a degree in Administration from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UFMS) and an MBA from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Born in Aquidauana in Mato Grosso do Sul, he joined Souza Cruz as a trainee in 1992, working in commercial roles in Brazil, China, Canada, and England and being the company’s president in Brazil.
The Board of Directors thanked Edmond for his success as Interim CEO of Alpargatas and wished Miranda success in conducting the company’s business.
