Hanesbrands Inc., the parent of Champion and Duofold, eliminated 46 hourly employees at its service center in Martinsville, VA. Prior to the job reductions, the plant employed a workforce of approximately 300.

This cut comes on the heels of HBI’s January announcement that it was eliminating 310 jobs and closing a sock-knitting plant in Barnwell, SC by the end of April.

Additionally, at the end of 2008, the company cut 210 management and corporate positions to reduce costs, and closed its China Grove, NC yarn plant, affecting another 185 employees.

Since spinning off from Sara Lee Corp. in September 2006, Hanesbrands has closed – or plans to close – at least 30 plants worldwide.
