HanesBrands reported plans to close its distribution center in High Point, NC, that previously supported its Champion brand business.
According to a report filed with The N.C. Department of Commerce, the plant closure will result in the layoff of 75 workers.
The distribution center’s closure follows the sale on September 30 of the intellectual property and certain operating assets of its global Champion business to Authentic Brands Group for $1.2 billion.
“The operations at the High Point Distribution Center were primarily focused on fulfilling the distribution needs of the Champion brand business,” according to the filing.
HanesBrands will close the distribution center around January 31. Some employees will lose their jobs around December 31 and have already been notified. Others will stay on until around January 31 and will be notified officially at a later date.
The business sold includes Champion’s licensed sports apparel division, which includes Gear for Sports, Knights Apparel and Champion Teamwear.
