Registration for the second annual Haibike eMTB Race at the Sea Otter Classic is now open. The race gives pro and amateur riders alike the chance to race electric mountain bikes on a challenging and technical course against a competitive field.

The Sea Otter Classic is a four-day “Celebration of Cycling” that hosts nearly 10,000 professional and amateur athletes and 70,000 fans. The 27th Annual Subaru Sea Otter Classic Powered by SRAM takes place April 20-23, 2017 at the Laguna Seca Recreation Area, Monterey, CA.

“The eMTB race is a unique opportunity to test the capabilities of the latest eMTBs. The course is difficult and the terrain will challenge you,” said Ken Miner, Haibike’s U.S. director of sales. “Judging by the smiles we saw on the course and the high-fives at last year’s finish line, it was clear people enjoyed the race and we’re excited to recreate that competitive, fun, and festive atmosphere again this year.”

Last year’s inaugural eMTB race had over 80 finishers, including world champion mountain biker and Olympic bronze medalist Christoph Sauser, competing alongside amateurs, cycling industry representatives and members of the media.

Demo bikes from both Haibike and Bosch are available for racers to use free of charge on a first come, first served basis.

The eMTB race is open to both men and women who will compete in six age categories and a Bosch sponsored “Industry Challenge” to benefit the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). The Bosch Industry Challenge for NICA is open to anyone who currently works in the cycling industry. The fastest racer will win a $2,500 purse to donate to one of the 19 NICA leagues operating across America; winner’s choice. Additionally, Bosch will contribute another $2,500 towards NICA’s efforts to expand interscholastic cycling.
