GSM Outdoors announced the hiring of Crispin Powley to the position of vice president of fishing.
Powley joins the GSM following the company’s recent acquisition of Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits, a manufacturer of soft plastics and fishing equipment for fresh and saltwater angling. In his new role, Powley will leverage his years as a competitive angler, industry professional and fishing enthusiast to lead and grow its expansion into the angling marketplace.
“I have spent the majority of my life working in the outdoors industry, specifically fishing,” said Powley. “From fishing competitively to fishing with friends and family, my time apart from work is spent pursuing the very passions on which I have based my career. In this time, I’ve been blessed with opportunities to work with incredible brands and incredible people. The opportunity to grow GSM Outdoors into the fishing space comes as an exciting and welcome challenge. With the team and resources here, and the company’s proven commitment to our retailer and consumer relationships, I look forward to the adventure of bringing products and brands to the fishing market that add value to the sport that we’re very passionate about.”
“I have had the pleasure of friendship with Crispin for a while now and have always thought, when GSM eventually jumps into the space, we would want him on this team,” said GSM’s Vice President of Sales, Zach Henderson. “His wealth of knowledge and passion for the sector is unmatched. From product development, sales or marketing we will build our fishing personnel around Crispin as we dive further into the space. I cannot say enough about him and what he brings to the company—very exciting times at GSM.”
“Fishing continues to be a bright spot in America’s pursuit of outdoor recreation, with participation growing across the country,” said GSM Outdoors CEO, Eddie Castro. “The incorporation of Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits into our family of brands comes at a perfect time for us to merge our manufacturing and distribution capabilities with new innovation and market opportunities into the recreational fishing segment, and we’re pleased to have Crispin Powley on board to lead the charge.”
