GSI Commerce, which was acquired by eBay earlier this year, last week opened a newly renovated 40,000-square-foot call center in Brunswick, GA. Company officials expect to add about 750 seasonal full-time workers at the facility.
GSI had been operating out of a 25,000-square-foot facility in a former outlet mall but leased an additional 15,000 square feet to expand into a space that once housed the administrative offices of Gateway Behavioral Health Services, according to the Florida-Times Union. As an incentive for GSI to stay, the Brunswick and Glynn County Development Authority provided a $75,000 grant from its discretionary funds to help the company pay for renovating and equipping the new facility.
GSI had previously employed about 300 people who've handled two million calls annually at the Brunswick center. Company officials announced the expansion in March.
GSI Commerce also is reportedly seeking 1,200 temporary workers for its operations in Melbourne, FL, for seasonal needs. That's about 300 more than they were looking for last year.
