Great Outdoor Provision Co., an outdoor retailer with locations in Virginia and North Carolina, announced plans for an expanded flagship store in Charlottesville, VA in the summer of 2022.
Originally started in 1972, the outfitter is an independent retailer with nine locations in two states.
The expanded store in Charlottesville’s Barracks Road Shopping Center, located near Shenandoah National Park and the northern terminus of the Blue Ridge Parkway, will be the largest of its nine locations and includes a demo program for gear testing and an adventure pass program where customers can subscribe to use certain equipment for an outdoor experience.
“We are excited to grow here at Barracks Road and look forward to opening this one-of-a-kind outdoor-inspired shopping experience in an area that offers so many great natural resources,” said Tim Glover, manager, Barracks Road location, Great Outdoor Provision Co. “We will always be a place to not only purchase great outdoor brands but a friendly place to get information and meet other people who are excited about getting outside.”
Great Outdoor Provision is known for its community involvement, financially supporting local environmental efforts, with a focus on youth-, trail-, and conservation-based initiatives. Local organizations that the company regularly works in Charlottesville, VA include Rivanna Conservation Alliance, the Piedmont Environmental Council and Habitat for Humanity.
