Granger’s International has achieved product certification under the bluesign standard, which means all of the chemistry used in the production of its textile cleaning and waterproofing products moving forward have been accredited.

The bluesign standard guarantees products are safe for people and the environment. Based in Switzerland, the independent bluesign organization was set up to meet the demand for rating products that are environmentally friendly, pose no health hazards and conserve resources to the greatest possible extent. As new products are developed, they will need to be submitted for accreditation and the accreditation is reviewed on an annual basis.

Some of Granger's bluesign-certified products will not become available until August 2008 in North America. Granger speciales in making cleaners, waterproofing treatments and protective finishes for footwear, outerwear and outdoor equipment.

Existing supporters and partners with bluesign include Patagonia, MEC (MOUNTAIN EQUIPMENT CO-OP), Vaude, M&S, Eco Apparel, Boardroom Clothing, Gleice, Riorein, Ethica, Formosa Taffeta, Everest Textiles, HoYu Textiles, Lauffenmühle, Schoeller Wool, Eschler Textiles, Sympatex, Getzner & Schoeller fabrics.

Granger’s is continuing its drive to develop technologies that identify with its commitment to environmental responsibility. All wash-in cleaning and proofing products now maximize efficiency in a 86°F (30° C) wash cycle, while their latest ‘2 in 1’ product achieves both in one wash, saving even more energy.

“The bluesign certification underlines our commitment to minimize environmental impact, above and beyond statutory requirements”, says Karolina Jones, managing director at Granger’s. “It means we can absolutely guarantee our customers and consumers that we have excluded any chemical substances and processes that could be hazardous to people and the environment. In addition, by converting production to the bluesign standard Granger’s will further reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption”.

“Granger’s is an ideal bluesign supporter because their product lines meet all aspects of the bluesign standard. They are proof that high-tech and functional textiles and sustainability are by no means exclusive. In fact, today they go hand in hand,” says Peter Waeber, CEO of bluesign technologies ag.
