Jim Famalette, president and chief executive officer of Gottschalks, said, “We experienced good performances in a number of merchandise categories during June including shoes, special sizes, better sportswear, kids and juniors. Sales for June were in line with our expectations and through our ongoing focus on inventory management we ended the month with inventory 2.3% below the same period last year. We anticipate improved sales trends as we finish out the quarter due to certain changes implemented in our marketing programs for July.”
