Goody’s October Comps Up 2.5%

Goody's Family Clothing, Inc. reported total sales for fiscal periods ended November 1, 2003, compared with fiscal periods ended November 2, 2002 as follows (dollars in millions):

“I am pleased to report that we achieved a comparable store sales
increase in October despite extremely warm weather in most of our markets
during the last few days of the month,” commented Robert M. Goodfriend,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Comparable store sales for the
combined months of September and October 2003 increased 5.1%, which seems to
validate our sales strategies and indicates that our target customer is
responding to our fall merchandise offerings and our value proposition.
Additionally, our fall seasonal merchandise levels at the end of the month, on
a per square foot basis, were similar to those maintained at the same time
last year.”
