Goody’s April Comp Store Sales Up 5.6%

Goody’s Family Clothing, Inc. reported total sales for fiscal periods ended May 3, 2003, compared with fiscal periods ended May 4, 2002 as follows (dollars in millions):

The fiscal periods of March and April are shown on a combined basis due to the shift in the pre-Easter selling season from March last year to April this year.

“Despite the cooler-than-average weather in April and a difficult retail environment, I am pleased to report that we not only achieved positive comparable store sales results for April 2003 and for the combined fiscal months of March and April 2003, but also reached our sales plan for the two- month period,” commented Robert M. Goodfriend, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Today, the Company celebrated the grand openings of three new stores, one each in Lawton, Oklahoma; and Jefferson City and Kirksville, Missouri; and one remodeled store in Statesboro, Georgia.
