According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played were down 11.5 percent in December 2016 compared to December 2015.
By region, the steepest declines were seen in East North Central, 74.5 percent; Mid-Atlantic, down 61.3 percent; New England, 61.1 percent; and West North Central, 48.7 percent. More modest declines were seen in the South Central regional, down 16.4 percent; Mountain, off 12.2 percent; and South Atlantic, 4.5 percent. The one region seeing gain was Pacific, up 2.3 percent.
Public access play was down 12.0 percent and private course activity was down 10.2 percent.
Nationwide total rounds for 2016 were up 0.6 percent over 2015.
