Rounds of golf played advanced 3.2 percent in July and are running up 5.0 percent for the first seven months of 2023, according to Golf Datatech.

By region, in July, the most significant gain was in the Mountain region, up 5.4 percent, followed by West North Central, 4.9 percent; South Central, 4.7 percent; East North Central, 3.3 percent; South Atlantic, 1.5 percent; and Mid-Atlantic, 0.9 percent. The one declining region was New England, down 7.0 percent.

In the year-to-date period, by region, the Mid-Atlantic led the increase, up 11.8 percent, followed by East North Central, 10.6 percent; South Central, 6.7 percent; and South Atlantic, 3.9 percent. Declining regions were the Pacific, down 2.3 percent; Mountain, 1.3 percent; and New England, 6.4 percent.

The pace of golf rounds played continues to normalize after surging during the earlier stages of the pandemic. Golf rounds played were down 3.7 percent in 2022, up 5.5 percent in 2021 and increased 13.9 percent in 2020.
