Golf Datatech (GDT), soon to be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Circana, reported that U.S. market sales for golf equipment continue to be very strong, with December 2023 up for the fourth month out of the last five, and bringing total 2023 full-year sales nearly flat with full-year 2022 numbers.

Compared to the pre-COVID year of 2019, full-year sales remained up 39.3 percent.

On- and off-course specialty golf equipment sales were up 6.6 percent year-over-year for December and up 38.3 percent from December 2019.

The leading categories for December were putters (+19.6 percent), gloves (+14.3 percent) and balls (+14.1 percent).

On the latest results, GDT co-founder, John Krzynowek said, “Overall spending on golf equipment held strong during the back half of 2023. After being down almost 3 percent through the month of June, sales improved by almost 3 percent in the July through to December time frame. Consumables continued to lead the way, as much improved weather gave golfers an opportunity to play more rounds, lose more balls, and need to ‘reload’.”
