Gander Mountain is expanding its footwear offerings by adding more than 20 performance brands, including Adidas, Asics, Brooks, New Balance, Oakley, Saucony and Under Armour, according to a report in The New York Times. The expansion will double, to 120 feet, of the length of the footwear walls in many locations.

The report states the hunt & fish chain will promote its selection of 63 brands and 550 style of shoes, boots and sandals with a campaign that includes a sweepstakes, shoe giveaways, promotions, advertising, public relations and content in social media like Facebook and Twitter.
Gander Mountain is looking to double footwear revenue in the next two years.

The report noted that the decision to expand footwear came after came after unseasonable weather last year hurt revenue and athletic shoes, boots and sandals is less seasonal or weather-driven.

“Like all retailers, we’re looking to capture more dollars,” Steve Uline, executive vice president for marketing at Gander Mountain, told the Times. “And looking at areas to expand, footwear is a great opportunity.”
