New York Giants great Amani Toomer, a Timex sponsor, will become the first former NFL player to run the ING New York City
Marathon in 17 years. Timex is a principal
sponsor and the exclusive Official Timing Partner of the ING New York
City Marathon and the Trusted Training Partner of the New York Giants.

Timex and Toomer will be working together to support New York Road Runners youth programs, which currently serve more than 100,000 children in hundreds of schools and community centers, to promote children's health and fitness, character development, and personal achievement in underserved communities.

To prepare for the Marathon, Toomer will train with Timex Multisport Team athlete and 2009 USAT Amateur Triathlete of the Year Chris Thomas. Making the transition from the gridiron to the pavement is important because on race day, Toomer will be starting at the back of the pack, and for each runner he beats, Timex will donate $1 to NYRR's Youth Programs. The Super Bowl Champion will also raise money for the program through fundraising websites where fans can go to support the charity's efforts.

“Amani has seen tremendous success on the football field and we're thrilled he is now making the transition to endurance sports by participating in this year's ING New York City Marathon,” said Adam Gurian, President, Timex Business Unit. “Amani set incredibly high goals for himself at a young age and has worked hard to achieve them. We are excited to have the opportunity to play a key role in Amani's training by gearing him with the new Global Trainer, which will increase his training efficiency and in turn help us raise more money for the NYRR's Youth Programs.”

“As a football player, I learned the value of physical fitness early in life,” said Toomer. “By partnering with Timex, and using the top-of-the-line training instrument, I am confident I will raise significant money for NYRR's Youth Programs and encourage thousands of children across the country to participate in physical activity and create their own personal fitness goals.”

Thomas, a native of Easton, CT will help map out Toomer's training program, which will be tracked by the Timex Ironman Global Trainer Bodylink System. The all-in-one GPS wrist device is Timex's latest innovation designed for endurance athletes, as the iconic watch brand continues to expand its fitness technology offerings across all levels of athletic training. Toomer will be tracking his progress on Timex Trainer Online powered by TrainingPeaks, and via a number of social media outlets, including the Timex Sports Facebook Page.

As a member of the New York Giants, Toomer played in the NFL for 12 seasons and played a key role in the Giants 2007 Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots. Toomer holds a number of Giants records including all-time leader in receptions (648) and receiving yards (9,497), touchdown catches (54) and most receiving yards in a single season (1,343).

Timex's presence in the fitness world has been evident for years via its partnership with the New York Road Runners in conjunction with the ING New York City Marathon, Ironman Triathlon event series and several worldwide marathon sponsorships. With a wide array of wellness and training instruments priced at various levels, Timex has established a broad appeal to the millions of consumers who want to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The Global Trainer system provides real-time pace, speed and distance on the wrist, driven by industry-leading SiRFstar III GPS technology and compatible with ANT+™ wireless sensors. Timex developed and tested the product with its team of world class triathletes and distance runners to ensure it met the needs of serious athletes. Because of its intuitive menus and easy set-up, runners new to GPS training can also use Timex's newest training tool right out of the box. After a workout, the Global Trainer syncs with the athlete's computer to download detailed workout and route information to online software powered by TrainingPeaks.
