In mid-April, Foot Locker will launch ZipWay, a new athletic apparel line, at 150 of its stores across the country on Friday with the brand’s new tear-away pants that feature zippered enclosure as opposed to the typical snaps.

The company, ZipWay, LLC is a partnership between John Starks, former guard for the New York Knicks and Daron Nunn, creator of the new pants. The pair sat down with SEW in an exclusive interview to discuss their vision for the brand and its future.

The brand will launch solely in Foot Locker, but will not be private label for the retailer. “We will sit down after the launch, we haven’t worked out a formal exclusive agreement, but we will have one in place after we do our launch, and that will be between a one- and two-year exclusive deal,” said Starks.

The initial launch will include just the pant, but the company will “have t-shirts, probably coming about two weeks after the launch, in May. There’s T-shirts, caps, and watches to name a few of the accessories that we will be offering along with the pant,” commented Nunn. For the most part, all product is being created in-house, but the watches will be created by Youngblood Timepieces.

Eventually, the company sees itself utilizing FL’s multiple concepts to help launch women’s and kid’s lines.
