At the Fleet Feet National Retail conference held in Boston last week, George Hirsch, founder of Runner’s World Magazine, was awarded the Fleet Feet Lifetime Commitment to Running Award.

In accepting the award, Hirsch stated that, “The world is divided into two parts: Runners and potential runners.  There is no “them and us” in running.  Professionals and amateurs are no different than each other, except some are a little faster than others.”

Jim Davis of New Balance was the first winner of the annual award presented last year.

Tom Raynor, president and CEO of Fleet Feet, challenged the franchise owners to reinvent themselves and embrace a larger group, calling for the group of stores to view their business as an opportunity to contribute to the larger world.

The event was attended by 90 franchise owners and store personnel and over 30 vendor executives.
