FBI background checks, as adjusted by the NSSF, were down 6.9 percent in April to 992,642 compared to the April 2018 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1.07 million.
For comparison, the unadjusted April 2019 FBI NICS figure 2.31 million reflects a 5.4 percent increase from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 2.19 million in April 2018.
April’s findings come after the first quarter 2019 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 3.41 million showed a decrease of 8.5 percent over the 3.73 million figure for first-quarter 2018.
The adjusted NICS data were derived by subtracting out NICS purpose code permit checks and permit rechecks used by states for CCW permit application checks as well as checks on active CCW permit databases. NSSF started subtracting permit rechecks in February 2016.
