Federated Department Stores, Inc. announced that the company has been named by the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) as one of “The Top 30 Companies for Executive Women.”
Federated ranked eleventh of the hundreds of companies evaluated, moving up from #23 last year and besting all other retailers on the list that was released today by NAFE. Federated and Procter & Gamble (ranked thirtieth) were the only Ohio-based companies to make the list. A complete list is available at www.nafe.com.
According to NAFE the competition was toughened this year by counting the number of women in line positions – the operating jobs with profit-and-loss (P & L) responsibility. At Federated, more than 60 percent of management positions are filled by women – and in senior management ranks, more than 50 percent, many in P & L roles.
“We want women to know that when they join Federated, they will be getting the very best opportunity for success, from the time they enter the company until the time they are senior executives,” said Ann Lazarus, Federated operating vice president for diversity and vendor development.
The NAFE “Top 30” companies must demonstrate at least two women on the board, a steadily increasing number of women in senior management, programs that groom women for upper management, maternity/paternity leave and flextime.
