EMC Sports, Inc., a division of Eric McCrite Co., has recently acquired the Soffe Accessory business, patents and licenses from New Balance. Soffe’s patented hair and sleeve scrunchies are sold by major retailers and team dealers.
Eric McCrite Co. has been distributing “Soffe” and other brand name sporting goods, at wholesale, to team dealers, retailers and decorators since 1989.
In a statement discussing the acquisition, McCrite says, “When we first looked at this business we thought the majority of sales came from cheerleading, but that is not the case, the bulk of the sales are with the sports-related sleeve and hair scrunchies.”
Later this year, EMC Sports will introduce “Soffe Brand” Socks, Bags, Caps and other in attempting to take advantage of the strong following within the juniors and college market.
